Why do you ride?
I ride for a number of reasons. First and foremost I ride because it’s zero emissions and better for the environment than driving a car (also cheaper). Second, as an endurance athlete, my commute is a great opportunity to score a little bit of cross training. I also hate sitting in a car and love the freedom that commuting on a bike offers.
What kind of bicycle do you ride?
I currently alternate between a vintage Giant 10 speed, a Cannondale M300 and am building a fixed gear from a vintage Schwinn Traveler.
What do you carry with you when you ride and how do you carry it?
When I ride, I carry a number of items for my day and for emergencies. I usually have running clothes and shoes, my lunch, a small toolkit and a few other odds and ends.
Where do you ride most often?
I commute from East Manchester to Downtown. On longer rides, I enjoy riding into Derry, Auburn, Candia and Londonderry

I ride in almost any weather and temperature. I won’t ride in snow or sleet, but have tried
What’s your favorite riding experience in Manchester?
I went on a lunch time ride in late summer 2013 down the rail trail that goes across the Merrimack and to the West Side Ice Arena. I run that route frequently, but seeing it from the saddle was a new experience and it was a relaxing break from work.
What’s been your worst riding experience in Manchester?
I’ve only had a couple bad experiences in five years of riding. I almost got “doored” one time on Lowell St. and another time I was nearly cut off and hit while approaching an intersection. Otherwise I find Manchester a fairly safe place to ride.
What city bike rack do you use most often?
I usually use lamp posts. Is that legal? My office is installing an indoor one soon.
At what locations would you like to see bike racks that don’t currently have them?
Racks on Elm, in the business area, would be great. That’s where I usually resort to lamp posts.
